In the state of Florida a person, not a company, can be licensed to asses or remediate mold. Always check to ensure the licenses are active. The company where the individual is employed with the license should all applicable insurances to perform mold work in the state. These insurances include:
- Workers Compensation
- Liability Coverage
- Pollution Liability
- Auto Liability
- Umbrella Insurance
If you are a consumer or business hiring any company to either asses, test or remediate mold it is in your best interests to ask to see all of the above documentation.
Many individuals claim to be “mold certified”. This is far different than being licensed to remediate or asses mold. A certification can typically be achieved in a classroom, and even sometimes on a computer or online course. True state licensing is a combination of training and years of experience accompanied by strict background checking.
